I was going through a bunch of old auction catalogs and ran across the Lanny Samson's auction catalog from Devine's auction in 1999. Lanny along with Phil Kroll, and Alan Avanger tough me most of what I know about Lefever's today.
I thought I would give a break down of the Lefever's that Lanny Had and the high and low hammer price for each grade.
Lanny Had 48 Lefever's

Bob, thanks for the memory. I was at that auction and was lucky enough to get a few of Lanny's guns. Times have changed , price wise.

Dr Sampson was a true gentleman. He was friends with Wayne Eikenberry and Chuck Swinehart. Chuck sold his huge collection of big bore English double rifles a few years ago in the Julia Auctions. I ended up with the .577 BPE Alex Henry double rifle made for the Maharaja of Pattiala that Lanny owned and was sold in the auction. He told me one time that he was building his gun collection for his retirement, sadly he died fairly young! If I remember right, a lot of his stuff went very cheap in the auction! He was extremely knowledgeable in many different types of rifles and shotguns!
