A. G. Genez is alway a favorite on this forum. I just finished a pretty detailed examination of the life and business of one of America's finest gunsmiths! I began examining him again after he came up in the Pinfire Game Gun thread and have spend many many hours over the past couple weeks finding everything I could on this man, his life, his company and his successors.

It really is worth taking 12 minutes to read this through!

Wonderful research. I thought Genez was a French name, but had no information about his background. Even Jerry Swinney’s multi-volume work on New York gunmakers completely misses him. Thanks so much.

Later-----I have been reminded by a friend that Genez does appear in Jerry Swinney's epic 5 volume work on New York gunmakers. Vol. 5 contains the New York City gunmakers in alphabetical order and information and fine photos appear on pages 177-183.

A great read, thanks for sharing. This is a maker that has long been overlooked and under-appreciated.

Very informative read, thanks for posting !
From my Genez files, I believe this is one of his dual fire conversions.

Interesting read, I especially enjoyed the bit about the neighbors contacting the health department about safety concerns. Some people are so uptight.

Thanks for the effort and time spent on the research.
Doffing my cap and bowing - in appreciation of a most entertaining, and informative post.
Here's a 10 bore percussion gun by Genez.

Lots of odd and interesting info on the website. Nicely done!
Much appreciated. About a year ago I got an 11 bore Genez muzzle-loader from an auction where the catalog misspelled his name. As a result the bidding was slow, and I got the gun for very little. It's a great piece, and it's good to have this info on the maker.

Wonderful article on Genez. Have a Pinfire Conversion based on
the Dougall action. It has a Underlever like the Jones but the
lever can be rotated clockwise or counter clockwise indefinitley.
Usuallly these conversions rotate 90 degrees like the Jones.
Have 2 B/loaders 10 ga-' 12 lb and 8 lbs- these have have
hinged forearms like Wessons and Whitneys-both Jones underlevers
Years ago Doug Eberhart the author of the Derringer Book told
me Genez was one of the best American derringer makers who
also engraved some of his guns.-
Will try to get pictures soon

Thanks for the comments, everyone. It was fun looking into all of this from starting with very little and traveling down all the rabbit holes.

Wow, I had not been on this site for a few months, I googled A.G. Genez just looking for new guns or info and found this article! Very cool and I like that you used the images of my gun. This is fantastic research thanks again

A year or so ago I bought a 10 bore percussion Genez very much like Daryl's in an auction filled with low grade, wornout muzzle loaders. It was the only quality offering. Strangely, the others brought silly-high prices. and my bid for a fine gun was the only one. I appreciate this information on the maker. Thanks AaronN.

It is amazing how much information can be found out there if you only look! I am sure I will be doing more articles like this.

Also, if anyone ever wants to sell or trade a 16g Genez pinfire (or any other size) let me know!
