I just recently purchased two SxS's from a customer of mine on a whim and I'm hoping I made a good decision. I know very little on each gun and was hoping to get some information on them. One is a Parker Bros. From 1906. The other a Ugartechea made in 2000. Now I'm new to this forum thing but I know computers and for the life of me can't figure out how to upload photos.

Sorry for the rookie mistakes,

Sean

For the Parker Bros. you should go to the Parker Gun Collectors Association site.

http://parkerguns.org/forums/

You can post pictures directly from your computer there.

To load pictures here you need to first post them to a photo hosting site like imgur.com

Thanks for the help. I have been on Parker Bros website already and am going to get the guns looked at by someone who knows these guns. I just was trying to make sure I knew as much as I could find out beforehand. These guns are not for sale but would like to get a rough idea of what they would be worth. For insurance purposes. Thanks again

I shoot Parkers and Parker repros and look forward to seeing your pictures. My oldest Parker was made in 1900.

Yeah if you can click on this link it'll bring you the pictures on Parker Bros. Forum. http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31395&goto=newpost

I created a link to photos of the Ugartechea. Let me know either way if you can open it. Thanks in advance,

Sean

Any importer's name on the Ugartechea? Maybe Lion Country Supply?
Posted By: Drew Hause Re: Just purchased two SxS - 10/22/20 11:35 PM
Sean: the Parker is a well used damascus barrel GH. The floor plate screws may have been switched. There also appears to be a crack along the left side of the top tang. Is it a 12g?
The gun deserves a careful check and clean by a double gun specialist with the expertise and equipment (bore scope and wall thickness gauge) to properly do so before use.

Thanks Drew. I am bringing the Parker and the Ugartechea to a expert close to where I live.
Posted By: Saskbooknut Re: Just purchased two SxS - 10/23/20 01:11 AM
The Ugartechea is a 3 inch 20 gauge, extractor, long barrels that appears to be made in 2000. Proofed to modern standards, with a light weight barrel set - an almost ideal Upland gun in top condition.
Posted By: Sean mac Re: Just purchased two SxS - 10/23/20 08:34 PM
Yes the Ugartechea is in great shape and I can't wait to get it to Kansas for some real bird hunting. Any idea of what it's worth roughly? I understand without having it in hand make it difficult to be exact.

OK, at the risk of being the dick here I'll respond.

The usual crowd is being way too polite. I suspect many consider this simply some kind of bait from an internet troll and not worth replying to.

Generally we evaluate first, purchase second.

I'm not an appraiser, but you ask what the guns are worth after supposedly just buying them. The value was established at that time.

The Parker is either a wall hanger or a money pit. The bores can hardly look better than the outsides.

The Spanish gun is not even close to 'top condition'. Even in the poor photos corrosion is evident.

I suspect I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

The Uggie is in pretty good shape based on the pics, but certainly there was some surface rust that was removed that left some light cosmetic pitting. No doubt still a nice gun to hunt with. The Parker if the barrels are sound can be cleaned up to make a decent gun with enough money. If the barrels are trashed then its a wall hangar most likely.

That's cool Mr. Jones. I'm not a troll and not sure what that is as I'm not on any sort of social media whatsoever. I purchased these guns from a customer of mine for what I thought was a good deal. If not so be it. If you are offended in some sort of way because you feel you wasted your time reading this then I'm sorry for you. And if you read this they're not for sale! They will be in Kansas at my father's.

Consider this the last time I'm on here.

P.S. This is exactly what's wrong with this world. Everyone's a tough guy online.

Don’t leave because of our resident expert Mr Shotgun Jones of MI. He enjoys intimidating people, esp newbies, and lacks any resemblance to tact. Although he is knowledgeable on some things it’s hard to tell because he got gobs of BS too.....but, he always enjoys being mean and condescending.

Nahh, Harmless jOe is a comedian. This guy shotgunjones is just mean, condescending, self described as all knowing, and argumentative. No levity or comedy about him.

Good to see you do not defend Frank Buzz, I was so confused before wink

I appreciate the responses. Like I stated in the very first post, I don't know much about these guns and wanted some info before bringing them to a local expert. I don't like walking in blind and you can only find some much info from websites. Thank you for what I've learned so far. I was merely asking about pricing for my own piece of mind. They're not for sale but if some through out a crazy number I can't say I wouldn't entertain the idea. I am really excited about possibly shooting some upland birds in kansas soon with both or one if the parker isn't in working condition. Also if there is some etiquette on these forums that I am not aware of I am all ears. I don't pretend to know what I'm doing here.

Tell someone they’re a gentleman at every opportunity, quote scripture whenever possible and under no circumstances mention hockey or golf and you should be good.

LR is particularly fond of William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armour
‘The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth,’ saith Solomon, (Proverbs 16:23); that is, he will not (allow) his tongue to run before his (intellect), but knows what he shall speak before he sends his tongue on his errand.

No worries Sean. I'm a straight speaking Kansan also.

Pretty good, Drew. Two out of three. Just needed to say it’s good to have another Kansas gentleman on the board.

Sean mac, thanks for taking the effort of posting your recent purchases. Unless you are a despicable Red Wings fan then you are most likely a gentleman and we welcome you here.

Thank you.

Over 1200 reads and nobody has offered to validate this guy's purchase decision which is allegedly what he's here for.

I don't believe everything I read in the paper. The original post and LACK of responses seem to indicate others share my concern that this is some kind of predatory gun deal or even a deal in stolen goods.

Nobody buys anything without some basic research if he's actually interested in the item and not trying to pounce on someone desperate to unload the goods for whatever reason.

This whole thing smells.

When we finally got the very poor and incomplete pictures what do we find?

Guns that have corrosion issues most likely from long term storage in soft field type cases. It makes me wonder who the fence is, the poster or the guy who made the initial sale to our clueless new member who finally admits that just maybe these wonderful guns could be for sale if he can turn enough profit.

I fully admit I should have remained silent just like the 1200 other viewers.

Thank you. I am a Bruins fan and named my dog after the team. I live in New Hampshire and am an die hard white tail deer hunter. When I came across these guns I called my father about them and he basically told me if you find a parker buy it. That's what I did along with a Ugartechea and a Remington sportsman 58 for $1200. I have a BOS as well from the owner. I stated I would entertain selling if a stupid number was offered only because I have two kids in college. I appreciate all the info and apologize for the lack of response as I don't sit on this all day waiting for responses. Like I said before this isn't my thing.
Posted By: Shotgunjones Re: Just purchased two SxS - 10/25/20 06:08 PM
Ah!

More information and a response from a real person who might in fact turn out to be an enthusiast. Thank you for that Sean and I sincerly hope I've read this whole thing wrong. I hope you understand my reasoning.

You likely didn't get hurt too bad and this is a learning experience like we've all had.

'Parker' is an old an respected name. Please understand that the guns are not rare, but condition is. A junker BMW is a junker still. We still can't really evaluate the gun for you. Detailed photos of the breech and bores are required, and from the initial pix it doesn't look real good.

I chimed in mostly due the opinion from another that the Uggie was in 'top condition'. I'm not sure if that was tongue in cheek or not. We don't have barrel pix on that one either. Depending on actual condition of the barrels both internal and external it may be a $400-$600 gun. The corrosion hurts the value of that gun by 50%.

The model 58 is another mystery of course, but they have a history of frame issues. You may a have a perfectly sound gun. They are a nice piece in the history of Remington guns. It ALL depends on condition.

Allow me to extend my welcome to the board and apologize for the method used to pump some information and 'validity' from you.

Like buzz says, I'm not always right but I'm never in doubt.

Thank you Mr. Jones I agree the Parker is in rough shape and like I stated before I am bringing it to a gentleman in Massachusetts to look at it.

I would love to be able to shoot these SxS as I am new to bird hunting in general but have a great place in Kansas at my Fathers. I've deer hunted there and I've had hundreds of birds fly in front of me walking through the fields. I think my dog would enjoy it as well.

I will try and take some better photos but all I have is my cell phone and trust me they're not that smart.

I'll give you $100 bucks a piece if you give me free shipping and send Dave his fee.

There shouldn't be any issue shooting the Ugartechea. And we can use all the converts to bird hunting we can get! Best of luck in KS.
