In a weak moment, I reloaded mixture of No. 4s and 5s vacuumed from hidden places. What are likely consequences of different patterns, late arrivals on ducks? I've kept the shells for years but decided to give them a try.

It should likely be perfection since you “dressed’em to the nines.” :-)

not only dat, but now you got skeet loads...mixin 5's and 4's creates 9's...
Posted By: KY Jon Re: Double Trouble? - 11/16/20 08:58 PM
4X5 duplex loads will be fine. One great load from days gone by was 2X4 or 2X5. I killed a fair number of ducks at range and geese fairly close with this combination. But that was back in the days of legal lead shot. Steel should be even less difference between 4&5.

In the late 60's early 70's I ran across a lot of old lead shot which I routinely reloaded and used for ducks. I had all kinds of mixtures but they worked fine on ducks. I don't reload any more but when I did reload steel I usually used whatever combination I had, which was usually 2's and 4's. No problem with them.

You might check the actual weights of the loads if you are loading volumetrically with mixed shot sizes. There is the potential for greater compacting for lack of a better word - leading to heavier than expected loads. Not sure it would be significant.

Assuming it is a safe load and steel as you mentioned you use on ducks, just have at it? If by late arrival you mean shot string, isn't it most likely that this is for fairly close decoying birds? Good luck, and careful if things are icing over.

I still shoot some old Rem Duplex Steel in 2x6, BBx1, BBx2. Also Fed Heavyweight 2+ (2x4). Pretty sure some of the current production HeviSteel loads are duplex. You should be fine.

King, you need to clear out your PM message inbox. You are over the limit. Gil

For anyone else, I'd advise shooting some at a pattern board, or simply trying them on ducks.

But after hearing some of King's tall tales of his gunning prowess, I'd expect that each shot with them will account for a full day's limit.

Nice to see a post from you, King. Some of us were worried about you not posting during the election...Geo

Speak for yourself Geo...

I, for one, was most happy to not see the old anti-2nd Amendment troll, or his usual blather and support for anti-gun Democrats.

King Brown has always been an interesting, informed, experienced contributor to this forum. For years Keith has hounded him about things that make no difference to anyone but Keith who has offended everyone here save jOe,craig, and John. I'm always glad to see King's posts. Keith, Did that super-sized bean bag chair I had shipped to your mother's garage arrive yet?

Brent, I believe Mec charge bars are made for #8 shot. If loading larger shot you'll have less weight, but not enough to make a difference.

It is not at all surprising to hear that you appreciate bloviating, blather, and trolling from a Liberal Socialist anti-2nd Amendment liar Billy.

To answer your stupid question, my Mom is dead you assh0le. You should shuffle off this mortal coil right away, and ask her yourself.

Keith hasn’t offended me. I’m trying to think if anyone has, and I’m coming up blank.

If you are offended by something on the inter web thingy, that Al Gore Jr. invented, you probably need a shrink.

Best,
Ted

I don't recall him ever offending me, either.

Thanks Ted and Stan. That's because I am a graduate of the Donald Trump Charm School!

Thin-skinned anti-2nd Amendment Libtard weenies like Billy need not apply.

Did that one cease operations due to pervasive investigations and settle for 25 million as well?

No, you must be thinking of the Chinese payola that the crack smoking Hunter Biden split with his old man, the Big Senile Dementia Guy.

I wonder if he was thinking about the mean dementia jo charm school, memory trigger for his one trick pony show. How long does it take for his staff to train him up for a new three minute speech, he says the same things as three months ago. I hope he doesn't go to Scotland and insist on a photo op at the kids pool?

I was also happy to see King's post after a period of silence. He has always been one of our most informed and thoughtful members, and when he discusses his opinions on matters that are controversial here, he is always respectful and articulate, with no trace of the venom that is routine with a few who disagree vehemently. King is a gentleman.
