Yes, thanks. Couldn't figure out what you meant. Good engravers are mesmerizing to me. I got to know two really good ones back in the '80s, when I was going to Friendship for the NMLRA nationals........ Lynton McKenzie and Lew Sanchez. Lew would bring work and set up in a building across Laughery Creek. He invited me to watch him, and he would carry on a conversation with me while engraving. At first I was scared to talk, as I was afraid I would distract him and cause a "mishap". When I expressed that to him he just laughed and said that he sometimes listened to foreign language instruction audios while engraving.

Both he and Lynton died much too young and much too soon.
Impressive indeed, Stan. Learning foreign languages from audio tapes while engraving-- that is no small venture-- to have that concentration needed to do both- amazing indeed. RWTF
Lots of people need just that little bit of distraction in the background to be able to do their best work.

Some people listen to the radio when they’re working.

It’s hard to explain, but it really frees you up to be more smooth. It sort of gets you out of your own way.
