Have some fox and Leftovers that have 3 to 2.75 drops any advice on comb pads,Need .25 to .50.Thank you for your response. gw

Moleskin is the old standby for building up a comb in increments to find out just what you need, and can be removed without issues.

I have a tendency to use things like that, that can be easily removed, without damage, after I tire of the gun, or pass over.

I don't much care for permanent "fixes" to old vintage guns, anymore. The next owner may have a longer neck than me, or longer arms, or fatter cheeks, or ....... ad nauseam.

I bought a leather, lace on pad, years ago, that accomplishes the same thing. I got it either from Track of the Wolf or, Cabela’s. It has a hood that goes over the comb, and laces at the bottom. Comes right off, if you want.

It was nice to shoot with, but, not as nice as a comb with 2 1/2” drop. Still have the pad, but, no longer buy guns with more than 2 1/2” drop,

Go to Amazon and search for adhesive backed neoprene. It comes in 6”x6” squares. It’s primary purpose is to deaden vibrations on things like washing machines, where the pads are stuck to the feet of the machines. Anyway, the pads come in thicknesses of 1/8” to 1/2”. When you buy that get a roll of adhesive backed leather tape also sold by Amazon. It’s to repair leather upholstery. Place the neoprene pad on the comb and cover it with the leather tape. Looks acceptable and works great. I’ve used this method to build up a Parker and a Perazzi. I cut the pads about 2.5” to 3” wide (depending on comb width) and 5” long. Adhesive is tough but it did not harm the poly finish on the Perazzi.

I have used this one with the included short riser on many old shotguns with a lot of drop. Works well for me. It does not add cast on as most risers do. You can see how it works if you look close. As your face moves up the riser becomes narrower.

The negative is how to attach it. First you must remove the ridge around the area that touches your wood or it will cause damage eventually. I sand the inside smooth which only takes a few minutes. the strap that holds it does not work because as you shoot it the saddle moves forward since the stock is thinner as you go forward. I have used vet tape or a drop or two of epoxy or crazy glue. The glue might be a problem when you try to remove it. Somebody creative might be able to add a strap connected to the butt to stop forward movement.

This has been the only way that has worked for me. All the others have increased cast on too much.

on my Parker Bros. Quality GH, 2-frame 32-inch 20-gauge, with 3 1/2-inch drop-at-heel, liberal application of dollars to Craig Libhart at Susquehanna Stock Works solved the problem.



To go to a straight grip with good dimensions would have required bending the tangs and all that involves to be right so we opted for the Monte Carlo.

I have used different kinds of comb risers. The one I like the best is from Recoil Systems in the U.K., http://recoilsystems.com
I like it because it is very slender and does not add cast or cover a large area of wood below the comb. I love wood and hate to see more of it covered up than necessary. The comb riser is called the 'ISIS comb riser' on the Recoil Systems website.

I meant to mention that if you need to remove the ISIS comb riser, you just heat it up a bit with a hair dryer and the riser peels off easily with no damage to the wood.

Second that on the Isis. Does not affect cast, adds comb in small increments, does not cover nice wood, and is easily removed with a hair dryer. Only draw back, comes from the UK, and takes some time to arrive over here.
