Any opinions on the first gen Royals? Are they all to be considered best guns?

Well, Holland and Holland certainly thought so as can be seen in this 1891 advert.

The first model Royal was introduced some years before H&H opened their own London factory, and was made, I believe by W.C. Scott.

Although soon superseded by an improved model I would regard them as “best guns” of their time.

Not at all like the later guns, nice but not the same quality.

I own one and am very happy with it. At 6lbs 9oz, it's very dynamic and just fine with 1oz loads for Sporting clays.----Matt
