I am trying to reduce weight of my 12ga by buying Beretta S686 Ultra Light. This is older production gun with ribbed barrels. I know older Berettas had issue with inertia barrel selector function when extra light weight loads were used. I have hundreds of Winchester Featherlights (26 gram minimum dram eq. #8s) which I have used in 6.5lb double shotgun which has two triggers. Will those extra light loads reset the trigger making second shot possible w/o banging on back of butt plate? If you have experience with this model and loads please provide feedback. Thanks.
Jagermeister,
I've used them in a Browning Citori Superlight a number of years ago with good results. The Browning uses an inertia block to reset the trigger, and I'm assuming that if the action parts are clean and lubricated properly all should be well. I'm presently shooting Fiocchi 12 ga. trainer loads - 7/8 oz. #8 @ 1200 fps in my SxS's with great effect and enjoying the reduced recoil as well.

welcome back jaeger...

long time no hear...

sorry i dont do o/u's, cept for old superposed...
Worse case you could have someone replace the inertia weight and spring like when you 680 series gun for dub-gauge tubes.
If you reload, that gives you lots of options to work up light (7/8 oz) 12ga loads. You can do a lot of experimenting with what works and what doesn't.
Thank you very much for valuable info you have provided.
Thanks Ed, I'm happy to recognize many names on this this forum.
The Beretta inertia single trigger is good with light loads (in my experience).

Here (UK) 21g loads are widely available and popular in 12 bore. I use them almost exclusively on clays and have used them in a 7 1/2 lb Beretta SO6 for 10 years or more. NEVER had a problem. I would expect in a lighter gun the recoil to be a little 'less damped' by the gun's weight (i.e. a bit sharper), so there should be even less risk of the inertia mechanism not working.
