I have a BSS that I am considering refinishing this winter. I was planning on removing the factory finish with Zip Strip. Any other suggestions for removing that wonderful, thick factory finish?
Thanks,
Jeff

If you have access to a Rockler Woodworking I have used there Heavy Duty Stripper a number of times and it has always cut the finish, even on a couple of Brownings I did (one a .22 rf and anther and O/U).

Just be sure to follow the instructions, be sure to use two sets of rubber gloves (one a heavy set of chemical gloves) and use in a well ventilated area.

It ain't cheap but it works...

Thanks for the tip. I'll get some and try it.

That heavy Browning finish can sometimes be removed with a heat gun.

Zip Strip will absolutely work. It does not come off in one shot, I cold water rinse off the gunk, let the wood dry, and do it again. I've had to scrape some finish off too, but it's softened/brittle after 3 go-rounds.
