I have an AyA that appears to be ammo sensitive. It shoot Fiocchi and Remington Gun Club just fine but others make opening the gun very difficult to open.

This is an extractor gun. Is there an easy way to see if it is due to the base expanding enough to keep the extractor from moving or the firing pins sticking in the primers.

There are a lot of folks far more knowledgeable than me on this site so I thought I would see if I could tap some of that expertise...

Next time it`s difficult to open ,examine the fired case primers,they will have a drag mark from the strike mark to the outside as the pin is lifted by the force of opening. Hth.

I think it is most likely caused by steel headed shells. Some brands are worse than others so I just avoid the brands that stick. Some brands will even jam up a pump gun.

Check firing pin protrusion, polish the chamber, and it's possible that wear on either the fore end iron or the cocking levers delays the rotation of the hammer or hammers enough to keep the firing pins from moving back out of the way.

I think primer drag is pretty straight forward to read, but if it's the extractor that's having a harder time lifting some hulls? I would consider making lengthwise magic marker stripes on a few shells, and likely the hangup will show clearly? You can couple that with before and after quick caliper readings?

On the otherhand, it's not the worst idea just to feed a gun its favorite shells?

I have seen a rash of this with 16ga chedite hulls. Steel base shells on the upper end of the spec and chambers on the lower end of the spec.

So what are you saying mark?

Case problem . May need to have the rims checked and that the extractor is not "sloppy "and is camming correctly .
