Any methods you can share on smoothing a Silvers recoil pad after grinding to finish ?

my method comes from trial and error, if you have a magnified look at the rubber after grinding it has lots of rubber parasitical,s still attached to the surface that do not want to rub off with abrasive paper etc. My solution as to make them more ridged so the abrasive will take them off. I found that a thin coating of French Polish well thinned or some fast drying cellulose Lacquer, this stiffens things up so 600 wet and dry will remove them and to get a good polish on the rubber 800 wet and dry followed by Solvol autosol polish.

I've had good luck using furniture polish with lemon oil and 6-800 grit wet dry.

the original packaging says paraffin wax I believe... ie vaseline... Never tried it to be fair... tried lamp oil and it turned the pad a bit sticky until it evaporated

Have patience. My Griffin and Howe repro Silver pad is slick as a frog's tummy. I installed it in 1986 and it has been "smooth" for at least 30 years with no treatment. It is impossible to tell it from a 100 year old Silver original.
