Good Morning,

I have a 1903 sporter that I picked up as a project rifle. One of its issues is that it is missing a bushing for the rear trigger guard screw. The trigger guard screw hole is oversized as if there had been a bushing at some point. As it’s not a sporterized military stock, I’m not sure if a surplus bushing is going to be the correct size & length. Should I just plan on making my own or try a surplus bushing?

How do I determine the correct bushing length?

Thanks,

Tom

How I do it.

Assemble the action out of the stock, measure the distance between the bottom of the tang and the top of the trigger guard. This will give the bushing length. ID on Springfield is 1/4", OD you can figure that out, a milsurp will probably work. I make the bushing a little long and trim to length as necessary.
