I had the Henry out to shoot it for the first time and try a few preliminary loads the other day (1875 A Henry double rifle .500 BPE) and found that the recoil would cause the long range leaf on the rear sight to jump into position. Shoot with the LR leaf folded down and after the shot it would be up. It IS very loose in that it swings up and down with little to no effort, not that if flops around side to side or anything like that. What would be a proper method of tightening it up a bit so it stays where it is put?.

The long-range sight likely has a "bump" or cam on the bottom that acts on a small flat leaf spring, one or the other of which (likely the spring) is probably broken and must be replaced.

Sometimes they just rely on friction to stay in place.

If the hinge pin has worn a dribble of Loctite at the hinge can stiffen it up sufficiently.

Thanks. I checked and there is no other mechanical method to hold it in place so it must have been friction. I like the locktite idea.
