I got a barrel in an estate still wrapped in the shipping material. It looks to be from many years ago. It is from the rock island armory commander. (Shipping label) Looks to be 30/06 as this fits the chamber. No real marks other than a j. P. At the muzzle end. Milled for a sight.

Thread outter diameter is 1.25”. Threaded end is about .8

What was this barrel. Did the rock island armory sell new Springfield barrels?
Is it worth something?
Thanks. I don’t know what to do with it. Hate to scrap it if it is worth something to someone.

How many grooves?

Gerald,
All barrels are worth something. If it is a Springfield rifle barrel, it will be worth a premium to people "restoring" Springfields to "correct" conditions.

I agree with Mike with it being of value. If it has a star gauge mark on the lower side of the muzzle it would be for a National Match 1903 or for a 1903 NRA Sporter, either would be worth a premium price. NRA Sporter barrel will not have a indexing groove milled into the barrel at the breech end. The star gauge mark will look like a small turtle.

I'm confused by the "no identifying marks other than j.P."
No date stamps???

Ken,
I was confused by that also, that is why I said "if a Springfield barrel".
