I'm alive and a friend let me a generator for a few hours so heres the up date.Lost lots of shingles branches off trees and one tree gone not bad concidering over thirty trees.Power still off and maybe for another week or two. Plenty of water still stored also propane and kerosene for lamps. Reminds me of my six years in Alaska with no elec. or running water. A cold front has kept the temps moderate 80's day 60's night. Have spent the time revisiting Mister Corbitt and his tales of Tigers and Leopard. The privte sector is much help, goverment not much.GOD Bless

Is "Amigo Will" of Santa Fe, Texas. by chance Wilhelm Gregor?
Have not read anything by him in years, 'My India' was was an insight on a people, a country, and society I knew next to nothing about as a youngster. The local GP lent her copy to an inquisitive patient. Thanks for reminding me. It appears you weathered the storm with sound forethought. Good luck

Welcome back. Glad you're alive and well. You and others have been in my thoughts and prayers.
A tree, a bunch of shingles, and a couple of weeks w/o power, not bad for what your part of the country went through. I wonder how long before Galveston is back to anything close to normal.
Take care.

Welcome back, glad you are ok, we are still feeling the effects of Gustav, but we are close to 80% now on power. I hope yours is back before they predict...usually the case.

Mr. Amigo Will, you have my sympathy. Having endured several hurricanes, I know what it's like in the aftermath. Glad you didn't suffer any serious damage.
For those of you who haven't gone through the experience, it's no fun being without power for up to two weeks in the heat and humidity of a southern summer. Take it from me, I've been there and done that. Try to live for two weeks without air conditioning, TV, internet, refrigerator, fresh food, hot showers, telephone, etc. And all this while trying to cut your way out of your driveway and then your neighborhood with a chainsaw. We had 25 large trees on our lot (up to two feet in diameter) and countless smaller trees down, two on the house. Walked a mile to stand in line at a food store that was giving out free bags of ice. I was grateful to get two and felt like somebody in one of those news clips that we see of refugees in a third world country lining up for food to be distributed. It happened in early September, it was January before we got all the debris removed.
Point of all this mumbling is it's not something I ever want to endure again. Hang in there, Mr. Amigo Will.

Wasn't worried about you, Will. You're a survivor. I bet you're enjoying it hunkered down reading a good book.

I wish you would have lassoed it and kept it down your way. It ended up here in southwestern Ohio and we had severe damage, too. I only lost a few tree limbs in my yard, but the surrounding area was a disaster. But glad everyone is OK.
