Old Ithaca has again found it's way into my heart and wallet. I've been looking for a 32" ejector boxlock I could guiltlessly restock and rechoke as a target gun. Oh, that VHE at Ivory Beads was something! ... but about twice my budget. A round-top Sauer; I pondered too long, and was sold. An extractor NID was so barrel pitted that I returned it.

So now I wait for delivery and inspection on a 32" Flues ejector. I find the engraving chubby, homely and endearing. I'll shoot appropriate length low pressure loads through it.

I tried to bargain on price, but I'm very bad at haggling: I figured with the economy, I'd lowball and negociate up from there. Before I finished my opening offer, they said deal! I don't know what I left on the table, but I'm happy. Wish me luck on the inspection. Advice on chamber size or anything else is appreciated.

No advice here, but matching a gun to that scenery!
Good choice.

Yeti, Nice gun! Good luck with it. Serial number? E-mail at wsnyder@pinehurst.net when you get it and have any questions. Looks like a honey!

Nice gun: BTW: Your second picture reminds me of one of the things I really miss about living in the North East.

Nice looking Fluesie, Yeti. Do you search for long barrels in the hope that the gun won't swing like a swizzle stick? The extra two inches would kill me or I'd think they were trying to. Did you see the early chopped(?) 26" Flues 4NE on Gunbroker. No color on it cf. to this one.

Looks nice.
The only thing that I noticed were the punches around the hinge pin. Was this common or did someone do it to hide a flaw.
Yeti I am not cutting the gun down I am just making an observation, so please take it in that vein.

Walt, I'll let you know s/n and anything else of interest.

Jack, It's all about how they feel between the hands and between the ears isn't it?...and yeah I'm looking for inertia similar to a big 30" O/U. The SxSs are, or at least feel, lighter/faster than the same length target O/U. I can't say the additional 2" of sighting plane is helpful, but I think the added inertia makes it look that way!

Looks too nice to mess with. Could just be the photography, but that appears to be a great buy.

Walt Snyder, is it just my imagination, or do Ithaca case colors seem to hold up better over the years than Smith and Parker colors?
