Gentlemen,

I don't want this gun, but I saw it while cruising the sites and it got me to wondering.

Is this an example of wrapping the stock with string and burning it to cause a tiger-maple effect?

I doubt it. Looks like a nice piece of what's usually called fiddleback, to me. Price seems pretty good too (I know nothing about Fox guns though).

That is how that tree formed. The guy who bought that blank paid more for it for that reason.

Fiddleback, yes, that's the term that eluded me earlier.

It just looked so uniform, and it's on a $600 Sterlingworth. I couldn't imagine that someone would spend that kind of money on a re-stock for a Sterly. I suppose this would be a job that was done for the love of the gun, and not for the money it might bring.
