I have an Ithaca NID double. The solder on the forend lug and about 1" of the lower rib in front of the lug has let go. Even though the lug has moved forward about 1/4", it is still attached to something (I assume the rib). In moving forward, it has buckled about 1" of the bottom rib pretty badly. Is there a chance this can be repaired without completely removing and relaying both of the ribs? Who would you recommend to give me some advice and/or do the repairs? Thanks Bill

Hello Bill, My shooting buddy had this happen to his Smith. Gunter Pfrommer can repair it, 540 484-5555. Is it the 20 ga, skeet? If so, sell it to me and save yourself the trouble!!!!

Walt - Yes, it is my 20 ga skeet gun. I'm sick over it. I'm sure this happened over several shots. I first noticed the forend release latch sticking out. Then I noticed the barrels becoming loose on the receiver with the action open. And, finally, what made me take a close look was the ejectors failing to function. Clearly, a lack of paying attention to several things (warnings) that "weren't right". Had I caught this earlier, I'm sure the kink in the lower rib could have been avoided. I will call Gunter on Monday morning. He repaired my 5E single trap and an L.C. Smith trap grade double earlier this year and did an excellent job. As I told you before, if the skeet gun ever leaves its present home, you'll have first crack at it. Bill

I have an older (1950) Beretta model 410 that did that same thing. The forend lug came loose from the barrels during a hot dove shoot and buckled the bottom rib for about 6 inches. Mike Orlen put it right and reblued the barrels for me. The repair hardly shows. I think the bill was in the $350 range...Geo

Bill, Don't fret too much. I'm sure Mr Pfrommer will make it like it was before. He will, however, have to pull the rib completely, in order to either replace it or straighten it out. Probably a good time to take a look between the barrels and see if all is well in there anyway. It'll give you peace of mind to know he's given the thumbs up on the barrel health after inspecting for rust in there.
