After following a article here by Bill at Oldworldwalnut to his web site I contacted him and he has been very helpful.

Ive been asked help a friend find wood for his Fox. I know he is going ask If I know anything about Oldworld so I thought I would ask if anyone here has purchased wood from them and how you would rate your experience.

I don't know Mr. Bill at all, and I do not intend to steer you away from him necessarily, but I can suggest someone else that is a straight shooter, sells good wood, and will work with you. He's on eBay as "quaking_aspens". Look him up as a seller there, be sure to get the underline between the two names. Your guy may be good as well, if you don't find your wood there, try quaking_aspens on eBay. Also, another of our members here, Pete in Bend, Oregon, is a well known and respected wood dealer. Not sure of his email address, you can find him in the "users" section here under the name Pete.

Grogel,
Maybe you could help your friend find a stockmaker, and he'd get the wood from the stocker. Wood isn't a reliable commodity no matter who sells it, but a stockmaker has decades of experience in picking blanks to work on.

If you want to get the blank, I'd try Cecil Fredi first. I've bought from Quaking Aspens on ebay and agree with Chief.

I agree with Yeti. Cecil Fredi is a first class guy that will email you pictures in the price range that you want. I bought a blank form Cecil and a year later I discovered that it was not quite wide enough for the gun I was hanging it on. Cecil took it back without a question.

I have found Mr. Dowtin to be untrustworthy.

I've bought some beautiful blanks from Bill Dowtin, and he has been a straight shooter. Also very knowledgeable when you get to talking stockmaking with him. His imported wood is the best I have ever worked with.

Yeti,

He has a "guy" that he likes who has done other guns for him but his guy told him he needed to find his own wood.

I dont mind. I will learn from going through the process.

I have the opportunity to shop this and asking for a second source to show me wood was going to be my next question.

Thank you all for your input. I appreciate being able to get input from those with experience.

The proprietor of OWW has a long and juicy history of bad dealings.
