Looking at this gun to purchase. It is a boxlock, nice birds/dogs engraving, 2 1/2 " chambers, fair wood, decent barrels. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this British maker? No good pictures as of now but hopefully they will arrive tomorrow.

nothing in sidelocks & boxlocks, shotguns & gunsmiths the vintage years, the shotgun history and development. let us hope is assembled in english hamlet from birmingham components. englishmen made durable quality guns even in the provinces so if it's screwed together by them all you need is your hands, eyes, and barrel thickness gauge for it's evaluation.
the only competition comes from south of la manche.
ps. avoiding ole' spanish and belgian stuff is good headache prevention mgt.

BV3 name. The gun is almost for sure a trade made gun as Halliday was a retail outlet. It could be a W&S, Midland, Bonehill, Bentley & Playfair, to name a few trade makers. Do the best you can to describe the gun and its condition - pictures are very helpful.

Formerly employed by W J Jeffery & Co, B Halliday left to establish his own business in 1921 at 60 Queen Victoria Street.
He moved in 1925 to 63 Cannon Street. At this time he offered gun fitting and coaching at the West London Shooting School.

In 1942 B Halliday & Co acquired the business of W H Pollard & Son.

In 1965 the firm was acquired by Watson Greenfield of Greenfields of Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The IGC is able to give some information on serial numbers and dates, email archives@internetgunclub.com with details of your gun.

Is it a non-ejector gun? There is no photo of the extractor and I don't see a pivot pin on the forearm. Would "heavy use, but no abuse" accurately describe its Current Condition? Or, does it need some work now? Does "second grade BLNE" sound right for the OQ? This based on the engraving coverage and stated nice wood.

Assuming it is BV3-OQ7-CC4 = $1,233 (12 bore). 16 bore guns are running about twice the price of 12's. So, figure $2,500,unless I have overestimated OQ or CC.

The stock looks really worn to me. There's no edge on the panel at all.

Yes the wood is worn but overall the gun is in good shape and it is an extractor gun. I asked so many questions the seller realized how much he would miss the gun and decided to keep. Sale canceled. Thanks to all for the interest and info.

Mike, there is a 16 bore W&S 700 w/28" bbls and 5# 14 oz that is in about CC2.75. BV3-OQ7-CC2.75 = $1,750. Figure about 2X for 16 bore as compared to the 12 bore chart - 2X$1750 =$3,500 USA retail estimate. The gun is priced at $2128 and would cost around $500 to get delivered in USA.
