roundball, thanks for the info. Pete, thanks for the list. I will have to try some and maybe for my 10 ga. I might try some Federals cut down and may buy some 10 ga. brass.
Again thanks.

The interesting thing is that for him, Elephant FFG always produced the lowest pressures in his tests. This may not be true today. If any of the makers changed their formulation.... This data is from 2001. It was common practice in the proof houses to measure each batch of black powder. They all had to be "adjusted" to produce consistent pressures.

Here is what Sears was selling. I would not use some of these loads in a 100 year old gun. I would like to buy 100 rounds for under $2.00

What grade of powder would those loads have used? They are very heavy compared to what works for me.

The world of shotshell powders is based upon 2F black powder. I'm sure you know the amount of powder used in shotshells back then was referred to in drams and the same 'drams equivalent' has been carried forward to todays boxes of modern shotshell.

Similarly, black powder measures are also calibrated with 2F as the standard...ie: a 100grn powder measure setting holds 100grns volume of 2F which also weighs 100grns weight.

So 2F granulation of black powder volume and weight are the baseline standard in the world of shotshell powders.

3 1/8 ounces of shot for snipe? Those boys were serious back then....

I'm assuming that's a misprint as they only list 1 1/8 for geese. *laughs*

Keep in mind modern FFG Goex seems to be a bit weak compared to powders back then....could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Best,
Mark
