Does anyone have any info about Whippet pads? They are open-sided with a good classic redish color with no white line. There is one on my Griffen & Howe .404 and it looks to have been there from when Hector was a pup. Could it be original? I don't particularly like open sided pads, but if it is original, I would not change it. Thanks, Mal

MAL: It is most highly unlikely the Whippet Recoil Pad is original to your Griffin and Howe. I grew up in a 3rd. generation gun store and Whippet pads were sold in our store and routinely mounted on mid level shotguns...Remington's and the like. I believe G&H used Silvers and some No Shok Pads primarily in the early days of their use and then Pachmayr's thereafter. You might want to consider having one of the reproduction red brick Silver pads installed professionally. They are available at JEFF'S OUTFITTERS CAPE GIRARDEAU MO at a reasonable price. The last authetic N.O.S. Silvers Pad on ebay circa 1931 went for over $200. Good Luck Jerry

What is the difference between a NOS Silver pad for $200 and one made by Silver today for a fourth of that amount?

about $175.00 before applicable tax and possible shipping charges I should think. But as you know Smiths, Parkers and other doubles quite well, did the "illusive" L.C. Smith Whippet grade SBT have a Whippet recoil pad as an available option??
