I own WC Scott 59754 from the same year as this gun, It's a SLE but with a lower level of engraving(probably one step below a Premier). It has the original fluid steel barrels and is in excellent condition. I wouldn't part with it at the opening price of this Premier as I couldn't duplicate the quality for that kind of money. IMO; For the kind of money being mentioned here anyone owning it would be getting one hell of a good looking shooter.

A really nice fluid steel rebarrel (not sleeved) in a bit lower engraving coverage but with sidelocks and crystal windows was offered at Allentown yesterday for $995.00. It is a crispy shooter, much better use of our money. Probably could have bought it for a buck less.

Well, I think it's a gorgeous gun and would make for a great shooter! However, it does appear the barrels have been sleeved, and not properly marked or represented in the sale. Further, I'd hazard a guess (I'm certainly no expert) that the wood has been refinished, that that recoil pad doesn't look "period", if you know what I mean. Still, it's a beatiful gun, except for the circles around the barrels that indicate the sleeve job (you'd really think they would have filled those in better than that), and the wrong finish on the barrels.

What's it worth? I don't know for sure, but I'd hazard about half the asking price, maybe less. Perpaps the fellow with the formula for determining value will make an appearance.

Scott has level 3 Brand Value (BV3). This gun was surely of best work grade, so, it is an Original Quality grade one (OQ1). That leaves only Current Condition level for establishing a value estimate. BV3-OQ1-CC4 = $8000 where CC4 is defined as "heavy use, but no abuse." BV3-OQ1-CC5 = $6,000 where CC5 is defined as "minor repairs needed or restoration accomplished." BV3-OQ1-CC6 = $4,450 where CC6 is defined as "shootable but needs some repairs and refinishing." And, BV3-OQ1-CC7 = $3,100 where CC7 is defined as "Shootable but needs repairs or restoration."

So, what do we think for CC level? The sleeving indicates damaged barrels or use beyond CC4 - ding. The sleeving seems to fall short of acceptable restoration - ding. The chipped screw slots indicate sub-standard work and indicate needed inspection and, at minimum, repair of the slots - ding. The wood and checkering restoration looks acceptable. The engraving looks better than very heavy use would usually allow, so we may have had mostly barrel abuse. Unfortunately, the damascus barrels are gone and, practically, unreplacable; could we, under any reasonable circumstances ever consider this gun fully restored with sleeved barrels? With Teague lined barrels? I'm going for CC6.5 (BV3-OQ1-CC6.5) which would value it at around $3,750.

Please, lets have some commentary on the above. I find this a very interesting case to study.

I think we all know what you're going to get in a new double for under $1,000. I would rather have the sleeved Scott for that kind of money any day even if the sleeving isn't the best looking. It's still a classy gun. Anyway JMO.

Well, Ok. For me, the improper American checkering (instead of the correct British chequering - they're different things) would be...er...ahh....ding, ding, ding. I guess I'm just picky.

Not so sure I'm following you on the checkering...I thought English flat top went out of fashion before that gun was made.

I not sure which gun we're talking about here. The sleeved premier up for auction of the one at the gun show? I would probably have bought the one at the gun show and I think it was a bargian as described.
