it's soapbox time.

why do some dealers even bother trying to sell guns that are in the 6-7k range when they don't post any information that guys , at least like us, call and ask questions such as

stock dimensions
bore measurment
minimum barrel wall thickness (damascus)
barrel length
chokes

I called on this gun http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/product_details.php?itemID=28680

really nice looking gun IMO, anyway we went thru almost all of the questions listed above and I said that I am sorry for putting you thru all of that and he said well let me ship this gun too you, and I said well the lop is too short and it has a huge DOH of 3 3/8", he then said "you get all you measurements" and I said yes, he then hung up as if I put him thru hell and highwater.

ridiculous, if he thinks he is going to sell that gun with his pitiful description.

Anyway, if any of you are interested here are the specs, so you won't "bother" this chowderhead

DAC 2"
DAH 3 3/8"
LOP from rear trigger 13 1/8
barrel length 26 1/8"
sk and cyl.

didn't even try to explain MBW thickness and bore measurement to this guy as he had trouble measuring the stock dimensions!!!

off soapbox

Sounds like a deal if you have short arms and a long neck.

I talked with them about a gun once....that was more than enough for me. They'd have to be almost giving guns away before I'd take a chance on buying a gun from them.

You bother with it because it IS a Diamond Daly with arguably the finest engraving and workmanship of any guns built during that period. The gun itself looks to be in fantastic shape. Alot of things are "wrong" with it (stock dimensions, short barrels, choking, etc), but if one had to money and "needed" a Diamond Daly in his/her collection, I wouldnt hesitate to buy it...for hells sakes the engraving alone is a masterpiece.

I've dealt with Collectors Firearms before, bought two guns from them. They were as described, they worked on price until we came to a agreement and they shipped the gun in bomb proof packing.

If I was seriously interested in buying it, I would have them agree to ship the gun to a gunsmith of my choosing for inspection before any cash traded hands....shipping on my dime of course, both ways if need be.

All that said, what a gorgeous Daly.

he did, and he was having some trouble with the other stock dims before that, so at that point I began to give up.

my rant is based off that if he would just take the time to put this info in the description to begin with, then he wouldn't be bothered by nagging customers. he is not the only dealer by any means that lacks certain info, but basic stock dims? I am at a loss!!

I agree, it is one of the most beautiful guns made it that era, a real beauty. I don't have to have one right now but I will find one eventually at a price of less than 10k.

I know where you're coming from: for a dealer to routinely ask thousands of dollars for a gun, and yet have no idea how to identify and then measure critical stock dimensions (let alone measure bores and walls) is frustrating for buyers for whom those measurements can make a four figure difference to the price they'll pay, and belies a stunning ignorance for someone in that field.

Offer them five for the gun. The stock can be bent. You will wait a long time to find another gun in that shape with that level of engraving. If I was after a Daly Diamond I want to see the proof marks and see how close to proof it is in. Barrels can be fixed, stocks can be bent and most minor problems can be done for less than it would cost to get that level of engraving.

agree........but a local dealer just got this in, so someone will probably buy this one pretty quick.
