Has anyone seen (seen is a stretch) the Lindner marked gun on Bob Jones' site? I seem to remember a Lindner marked gun pictured on this site a while ago, maybe while Owleye was still with us. Maybe someone would get Jones to post some pictures of the rib inscription. The rib inscription on the gun we examined some years ago was suspect for some reason I don't recall. The gun's originality as a Lindner marked gun was in question. This couldn't be the same gun, could it? Twenty five grand should indicate a pretty important gun in the Lindner market.

I have not seen the gun, but, I seem to remember the situation you describe. I seem to remember the name "Lindner" being spelled incorrectly on the rib, which would sorta' make it an out and out fake, if Mr. Lindner knew the correct way to spell his own name, that is. Is that what you remember, or is that a different situation?

There was a gun marked in gold with Lindner spelled correctly on Bob Jones' table in Vegas a few years ago. It was nice, but a barrel problem of some sort. I held it and it was genuine. Also saw photos of the "fake" "Linder" gun. Too bad as a real nice gun was spoiled. I'm headed out pheasant hunting for a while, if photos of the genuine Lindner marked gun do not show up before, I will find them and post.

It was marked H. A. Linder.
If my memory serves me correctly, an article came out is Shooting Sportsman on Linder/Lindner doubles. In the article there was pictured was a Linder/Lindner sidelock. The author said something about him knowing of only one other Linder/Lindner Sidelock. A week or so after the magazine came out, it was up on auction at one of the auction houses in the North East. It was purchased. Turned out it was put up for auction by someone at Shooting Sportsman.
Pictures were posted here. Your memory of the discussion serves you well; the consensus being it was spurious.
It was subsequently sold privately to a private party who was aware of the discussion here; reportedly sold again at a Vintage Cup event a few years ago.
The one on Bob Jones' page is not the same one.

I have a photo of the Lindner that was hashed about on this site a few years back at home on the computer. I'll try and get them posted tonight.
This was the gun that put the dagger in the heart of the misspellig of the Lindner name. At about the same time this gun came to light, information provided by Hans Pfingsten and others positively identified the HAL intiials belonging to "Heinrich A. Lindner". Prior to this time, Lindner guns were often described as "Linder guns" (one "n" instead of the correct two "n"s in Lindner.) The research information combined with the Lindner-made and Lindner-markend gun definitively answered the question about the correct spelling of the man's name.

BBB is incorrect.
The "spurious" gun was not put up for auction by anyone associated with Shooting Sportsman Magazine. I wrote the article in question and one of the editors at SS changed my copy-without my approval-to "two" sidelocks instead of "one", apparently because of the spurious gun already advertised. I had seen it too and purposely omitted it from the article. I also photographed (with Mike) the correct spelling on the gun at Las Vegas and supplied the image to my friend Hans for his first article.

Your second two photos show the pictures I was about to post. I think it is important to note the German spelling of "diamond quality".
Your top picture shows the gun that was universally panned as a fake of course. Note the the comparatively crude engraving - looks like someone buffed down a section of rib before grabbing their favorite stencil set.

"Incorrect"? Now that's an incorrect assertion.
I spoke to you on the telephone about the spurious "Linder" shortly after the auction. You explained to me that you had not ever personally seen the gun, but had only been told about it.
Also, at about the same time I spoke with you on the telephone, I also spoke by telephone with the previous owner who put it up at auction and we discussed his gun; he is the one who told me of his position at Shooting Sportsman.
