I note they rotate on a hinge pin, sure don't look like a Darne to me. They are not under-bolted so not a typical English or Continetal gun, probably American. Can't see the top bolt in pics so no help there.

Interesting comments. One guy on UJ also said a Darne.

Gents, those are pics of 311s I have. There are five pics; the first two and last two are of my deceased father's 1930s model 5000 16 ga. The line can be followed from the hook to just before the barrel extension. I figure the last part of the line is not visible because it probably got welded over then filed after the installation of the extension.

The third pic is of a pristine 1964 Sears 101.7 Stevens. On that one I buffed the area with 0000. Notice the different machining marks and the line of in the middle. Also the line on this one can be seen all the way to the extension. No pic, but on a late 40s 5100 I have, it is like the 5000 with the line at the extension filled with weld. The line on all of them is also clearly seen in the cocking rod hole.

The later 311s looks like some kind of paint on the lumps and flats, hiding the line. You may have to buff a little.

So get out your old 311, look closely, and say "chopperlumps!!??"

My 5000 Best has it! To go with the upgraded wood, twin ivories, BT & pad!
