A friend of mine has what he describes as an 8 mm Holeck semi auto rifle. Claims it appears to be civilian as opposed to military. It is a WWII bringback. Anyone ever heard of Holeck? Is there a forum that may be more appropriate to post this inquiry on? Thanks

How about .276"? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/conten...erarchyId=10473

There was a thread in the single shot section but I couldn't find it, possibly because Dave cut it due to the fact it wasn't a single shot.

I probably have some info on Emanuel Holek.

Kind Regards,

Rifles of the World
http://books.google.com/books?id=Eq2Dnj4...fle&f=false

In early 1930s one version of the ZH-29, chambered in .276 cartridge, had been tested in USA against Pedersen and Garand rifles.

Can you confirm the spelling and that it is either Vaclav, Frantisek or Emanuel Holek and not J. Holecek of Hradec Kralove who subscribed to the Churchill style and tube length? They may be related and just their last names misspelled.

I think the Polish Army bought some of the 8x57mm military version, possibly for tests, and then used them against the Nazis in 1939. I saw one that came to the US from Germany as a "trophy that had already been a trophy." Complex compared to an M1 but beautifully made and accurate, even with wimpy US hunting ammo.
