Local Pawnbroker has a Browning BSS sidelock for sale. I don't know anything about them even where they were made. This one is 12 ga. in nearly new condition with what appear to be 28" barrels and double triggers. Any insight would be appreciated. Jake

They are very nice guns and very few were made. Remember, the standard guns that sold for less than $500 are now commanding $1,000 for 12ga. guns and $1,500+ for the 20ga. guns.
If memory serves me, the sidelock guns were in the $2,000 range to begin with. What's the price?

These are high quality sidelocks made for Browning by B.C. Miroku in Japan in the 1980s. I seem to remember that only about 500 were made. My wife owned a 20 ga which we bought for $1500 new back then and sold for $5800 2 years ago. Very nice guns. Of course the one at Cabela's is priced too high by at least $1000, but what else is new?

I've seen 20's listed for that much, and they have appreciated a good bit--but that is pretty high, for sure, especially for a 12.

In terms of total production, I could swear I saw somewhere that it was over 2,000, but only around 700 in 20ga.

Correction to the above: found the production total reference in an old DGJ article. 714 in 12ga, 450 20ga.

Jake, if you're interested in a 20ga that I'd put at 98%, 26" IC/M (way cheaper than the above), shoot me an email. I've been thinking about listing it here. If it sells, Dave gets his cut. miclarry@netins.net

$5,000 is AyA #2 money, so that Gunbroker 12 doesn't appear out of line for a NIB 12ga. James Flynn certainly praises the gun in his article.

The REALLY crazy prices are on the BSS Grade II Boxlock, especially the 20ga Sporter. Same as the Grade I Sporter but with nicer wood and a game scene, coin finished receiver. I'm pretty sure there are even fewer of those than there are 20ga Sidelocks, so rarity may be a factor.

Jakearoo, if you do not buy that gun and if the pawnshop is anywhere in the San Diego area, please let me know. I will hop in the truck and head over there immediately. I'm only a couple of hours away from SD. If it's around Vancouver, I may call first. Thanks.
