I friend of mine has a gun that looks like my model 700 but has a Greener cross bolt and a POW grip. It's a nice little 20 with extractors. Is it a model 700?

webley and Greener merged sometime ago in the 1970's and I seem to remember a gun produced that sold as the Webley-Greener (what else?) and I wonder if that was the one. Also, the earlier Webley 300 series model had a cross bolt. Lagopus......

My 1960's A&F imported Webley and Scott 700 does not have a cross-bolt. Does your friend's gun say Webley and Scott on it somewhere?..Geo

The "WEBLEY NO.300 HAMMERLESS CROSS BOLT GUN'without ejectors matches your descrition of your friends gun.In a catalogue dated 1935 The gun is described as having 28 inch barrels.Neat border and scroll engraving.Webley states ,"in spite of its low price, the finish of this gun is comparable to guns of a very much higher gade." Price 23 pounds, stirling.

I had a pair of Scott-made Army & Navy 12's from the 30's that had Greeners. A&N called them the "Anson Model", but I think--per the above--that they were actually Webley & Scott 300's with extra engraving.

The serial number should tell what era of catalog to examine.

According to the book W.&C.Scott Gunmakers [Which also covers Webley and Scott],the model 300 was in production from 1924 -1940.

There certainly seems to be a plethora of Webley & Scott / W. C. Scott models. My W.&C. Scott, Ltd. 12-bore is an "Orvis Best" with blackened frame, circa 1982. Very well stocked(PoW), well balanced and happens to fit me like a glove. 6-1/4 lbs. It loves RST 2-1/2" one oz. loads, or my own 1180 fps low pressure 2-3/4" one oz. "home-brews". I consider myself very fortunate to have found such an inexpensive bird-gun treasure.... Mike
