At a small local gun show today I traded for a M 37R with a solid rib. I very seldom see one in any gauge with the solid rib, and was just wondering about how many were made this way?
Ser # 500XXX with matching # on bbl, corn cob fore end, 28" bbl with Mod choke. Swapped a Rem Mohawk 48 12 ga auto and some $$ for it. I'm happy.
Thanks, Curtis

You got a very nice gun. I have a 37R, 20 gauge, solid rib, full choke, serial # 75029 that I have had since I was about 16.(1965) It was made in 1948 the year after I was born. I hunted with it for years. I had it reblued back in the 70s and it looks like a new gun. I retired it several years ago but I did take it out once last summer and shot a round of skeet with it. It would probably be about the last gun I ever sold. Nice gun. Good luck. You have a dandy.

Hello Curtis,
According to my count, about 41,600 were produced. Thanks again for your kindness in sending me the Ithaca paper.

Thanks Jimmy. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm awful glad I was able to get it.

You're welcome Walt, glad to send them to you.

And since this is the doublegun site..........
When I got home that evening I had a email from a good friend that said a man contacted him about an Ithaca field grade 20 ga he wanted to sell. The friend didn't want it so he suggested I call about it. I did, and had the guy describe it over the phone. It's an NID, New Ithaca Field Grade with 28" bbl's choked M/F. I sent him a USPS money order this morning, so I should have it in hand in a week or so.

Congratulations! I am sure you will be delighted! My worry is we are getting too much Ithaca exposure and our Parker and Fox friends will start to wake up. So we need to start talking on a privet line.
Best, walt

Sounds good to me. Maybe we can get Greg Tag to start a IOEIA web site for Ithaca folks? Or affithicanados as Rabbit used to say. :-))

I for one, am one of the "converted" Ithaca people. There are 9 Parkers in my safe but they have moved to the back in favor of some Ithacas. Nice guns, and with 2 small children, a mortgage, and limited discressionary income they are much more afforable!!
