Anyone know anything about these guns? Recently picked one up, BLE, I think it may have been the last boxlock Garbi made. This one was made in 1983, imported by L. Joseph Rahn, marked "RGS", apparently available through the Ruffed Grouse Society. I picked it up thinking about our RGS chapter banquet, but if the chapter doesn't want it, I'll be happy to keep it. Thought I had an article on the 51-B somewhere, but can't locate it.

Larry, the story I recall was that long after they had decided to make only SLs, the folks at Garbi found a small number of BL actions in the shop. They were cogitating on what to do with them when WLM begged them to make one last run of BLs. Garbi agreed but said there would be no more. I think there's a 20 from that run still on gunbroker.

Thats the same story I've heard, or, seen printed. Never had a boxlock in hand to form an opinion of, but, several of the sidelocks I've handled are superb. One could certainly hope the boxlocks were as nice. Best, Ted

In a review McIntosh wrote of the Garbi Model 101 sidelock, he says that they decided to phase out boxlocks in 1980, so the above story could be true. This is a pretty nice little gun, I'd say clearly superior to an equivalent Uggie, maybe lagging behind an AyA 453 only in wood quality.

I have been in the Garbi factory and thought that the guns were almost as nice as my Arrizabalagas(bias)and with as least as good wood .I have seen High grade Arrietas that were awfully good as well. I have never seen a boxlock Garbi, Buut I'd like to have one. Don Hardin

The Garbi 51B is listed in my 1988 Gun Digest. It was offered in 12, 16 and 20 ga. Imported by L. Joseph Rahn. It also says that it was introduced in 1980, with the 1988 price listed as $950.00
