Are there any good sources/books on Lefever guns, not the Ithaca itteration, but the "real" ones? Google and Amazon are sort of skimpy on them. Thanks, Dr. Bill

Bill,

Go to http://www.bookfinder.com and put in search terms for author: Robert W. Elliot and Title: Lefever and you'll get a hit on both of his books about Lefever history and craftmanship. The most recent version is the best, "Uncle Dan Lefever, etc., etc." and,if you subscribe to The Double Gun Journal you can find an ad that will get you an autographed copy directly from the author. Also check the book rack on this site!

Second, Cornell Military Publications, Abby Mouat, has reprinted most or all of the Lefever catalogues from 1872 and they have much Lefever lore in them. I just got the 1889 edition and it's very informative. The DGJ, of course, has a few more than several articles on Lefevers.

Best in the New Year,
Tim

Check out this item on E-bay;

I assume these are some old leftover stock. Still have the Fortress Publications Inc, P O Box 241, Stoney Creek, Ontario address in them. I gave $2.50 for #10 (1889 Lefever) about 30 yrs ago. They keep coming up on e-bay along & recently bought the set of 9 (all except #6) for $2.99. Jackets are not very heavy, but the info is the same & price is hard to beat. Interesting to lay the 1889 Lefever & L C Smith catalogs out SxS & compare them.

Thanks everyone, particularly Ken Hurst who furnished me with Bob Eliott's phone number. Had a very good chat yesterday with him and have ordered the book. Seems I have this :thing" for books! Merry Christmas to all. BILL

Bill

Thanks for your hard work and sharing of quality knowledge over on the L.C. Smith Forum. There is a beginning cache of Lefever info over on the Lefever Arms Collector Affiliation Forum, as well. Some of it is unduplicated in print anywhere else I've seen.
