My favorite is lot # 1360. I don't think anyone else at my club has one.
Besides elephants, what other pachyderms are there? Was the maker just covering his rear to avoid lawsuits, if the owner were to be trampled while trying to decide on which load to use?

Nice stuff, all of it.
Thanks for the link.

LouM, I think "pachyderm" derives from Latin for thick skinned, includes elephant, rhinos and hippos. Maybe giraffes too, for all I know.

I'm most interested in auction number 1365. I see the suggested price is 15,000 to 20,000. I wonder if anyone will actually give that much for it?

I have been drooling over 1071.I know well the "buy the gun not the story" but in this case I think both are neat, not sure I have ever seen such a nice DR drilling.

Back when I was trying to raise 5 kids on $70 a week and buying the $10 Arisakas to mess with. I sort of hung out in a gun store in Norwood ohio run by a man named George Burrier. He tried to talk me into buying a drilling as an investment. It was a 16 gauge double 7mm lower and 22lr upper. You could not see where the gun opened and closed it fit so well. It was one of Gorings guns. I often wonder what that $200 is today and if I would still have it. I still have a few of the Arisaka remains.Anyone here from the Cincinnati area in the 1960s?

Without a good provenance I suspect the Goring name assoiacted with that gun would not add much. Its kinda like "taken from a Nazi officer" with lugers. The stories are more often then not made up over the years.
Goring had a liking to the 9.3x74R round too,so a 7mm drilling would be a bit supect just on caliber. He did work to keep his status as a great hunter and did have many guns (paintings, wine collection....) and anything is possible but the "buy the gun not the story" is indeed the rule you should follow.especailly with WW II weapons.

A double shotgun with 2 additional rifle barrels is known as a vierling and is now worth somewhere North of $10K no matter who owned it at one time. I've owned one, only one, a Hubertus boxlock in 5.6x35R/16/16/8x57JR with alloy frame and claw bases, SST on both triggers of course. Wish I still had it...
