I want to start a project gun for myself. I know you will all laugh at this but my choice of project is a Savage model 93 in .17 HMR. I bought the cheapo model with the rubber stock, planning on making it a mannlicher stock in the style of the CZ FS model or Steyr. I'm working on a budget here so yes cost IS a factor. I have gone to many web sites but only a few offer the mannlichler style stocks. Anyone here know of someone that can cut me a semi inletted stock in that style? I can either supply the wood in a nice red maple or use the stock makers blank.

Wenig's in Missouri. www.wenig.comYou can send your stock and they can do a 90m percent stock for you and you do all the rest. Doing a Manlicker type stock they would have to have a "Mule" to make a 90 percent stock though. Myabe this post is not what you want. Regards, Gordon

My wife says that I am as stubborn as a mule. Does that count?

There is a store in town that sells Mesquite wood but nothing thick enough for a stock. There a lot of flaws in Mesquite and it's heavy wood. It is beautiful though. I saw some kitchen cabinet doors on a T.V. show that were very nice.

I used Wenig once and will not use them again. What I got back looked like it was done late Friday afternoon. I remember getting way better products from Bishop and Fajen. Even a M12 stock I got from that American whatsis here in NorCal was much better machined. But some people are in love with them. Good luck and pay attention to their note about if they use YOUR stock as a pattern you get no guarantees of any kind

Call Donnie Gemes at Show-Me Gunstocks. Donnie once worked for Fajen and has turned many stocks for me. He may have what you want or suggest ways to get it. Do not try email, he sledom answers. 660/438-4568 Show-Me Gunstocks 19557 Quail Ridge Rd Warsaw, MO 65355

I have not had good luck with wenig. If they are not doing the complete stock for you they have an attitude, and send you crappy wood. i will call Donnie.
