Is the Ross man still around? I would like to hear what you and others have to say about this rifle.

He's started his own Ross website. Google Ross rifles.

The rare and expensive Lyman No50 sight, AKAH (?) mounts and Maxwell Smith Co. scope, circa 1946-50. The sight predates the scope by a couple of decades or thereabouts.

Beautiful rifle.

As long as it's a .280, it's surely a 1907 Scotch Deerstalker. Outside chance it's a 1905-E, though. Certainly appears to be a product of one of the better English Houses, rather than Ross in Quebec. Having owned multiple English examples in the past, I came to the conclusion that Sir Charles was selling components, rather than complete rifles to be torn down for parts, based primarily on prices found in original catalogs. The Lyman 50 was a catalogue option for the 1905-series Commercial Ross, including the 1907.
Slick buttplate! Can pls confirm calibre, and presence (or lack of) Brit Proofs and Dealer stamps? Other Brit Ross rifles can be found in the photo gallery at RossRifles.com

It's a .280, a Scotch Deerstalker, custom stocked, and I'm still working on more info.

Interesting M1907 Scotch Deerstalker. If you go to rossrifle.com you can find another one pictured with that same sight. The Lyman No. 50 is a rare sight. I understand that when Nick Stoebel did his sight book, he could not find an example to picture. I am certainly curious about the history of this rifle.
