I have a bunch of Federal GM plastic hulls, and I would like to find a suitable low pressure load. I have a very low pressure 1 1/8 oz. load, but am looking for a nice 7/8 oz load. I would like to keep pressures in the 5000 psi range. None of my books list a 7/8 oz. low pressure load for these hulls. Thanks for any help and information. If your not comfortable posting your load info...please send me an email.
Cheers, Dustin maruquinandsons@juno.com

Dustin, Hodgdon has some 7/8oz loads for 12 ga for FGM. I don't know about pressures... http://data.hodgdon.com/shotshell_load.asp

The IMR Handloader's Guide has any number of low pressure 24 gram loads, which for all practical purposes are the equivilent of 7/8 oz. Right out of the book is Fed. GM Hull, 16 grains of 700-X, Fed. SO wad, @ 1160fps and 5500 psi. I personally load about 15.8 grains, with the Claybuster equivilent of the Fed SO, and am relatively confident I'm at about 5000psi or thereabouts. The book says to insert a 1/8" 20ga. nitro card in the bottom of the wad to take up space.
Please understand this is the load I use, which is out of the IMR book, but I am not recommending its use--just providing some info for you to make your own decision. You can also go to the Reloading Center on the Hodgdon website and see all these loads listed, as well as others.

Ok gents, thanks for the info, next dumb question....where does one find a 24 gram charge bar for a MEC? I know 7/8 is pretty dang close (24.8058327 grams), do you guys just use a 7/8 oz. charge bar and call it good?? I'm one of those guys who measures out my powder on a scale, makes sure that the bar is actually dropping the right amount of shot and that I actually have the correct bushing for the amount of powder I need (the chart is never even close in my experience). Am I being too cautious?

Dustin - I just use the Adjustable Charge Bar for the MEC, but I wouldn't sweat the differnce of .805 grams. I suspect you will get much more variation than that going from Number 9 Shot to Number 5 shot.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

Dustin, just a few weeks ago I put a MEC 7/8 oz bar into my 9000 and loaded it with #8 magnum shot. It drops exactly 24 grams. Twenty four grams is just 9 pellets less than 7/8 oz on my scales with this shot so I don't think it makes any significant difference.

Hodgdon technician told me over the phone couple of years ago that it was acceptable to use a 7/8 oz bar for the 24 gm loads.

The cb4100 wad comes with data for a 7/8 that is fairly low pressure using Clays or Clay Dot. I have had good luck with it. Mark
