Both guns are 20 Ga SxS's made in 1961 and the gun pictured is a Beretta 410E with 27 1/2" barrels.The other gun not pictured is a Webley & Scott Mdl 700 with 26" barrels and semi pistol grip. From your experience can you say that one gun would be better quality than the other? Both guns are in excellent condition but just curious if one may be a better quality gun than the other. Any input would be appreciated Thanks

Hi, for me it would be the W&S hands down. Of course when it comes to doubles, I'm an Anglophile. The W&S to me is a much better finished gun, better handling and feel and also more of a game gun as defined by the British.
My vote is for the W&S.
Good luck on whatever you decide and of course half the fun is looking!!

I'd give the Berreta a slight edge in materials and design while the W&S 700 would get a slight edge in workmanship and style. Either gun, given good care and proper lube should last a life time for anyone but a high volume shooter.

I have one of each. I'd have to give the call to the Webley & Scott 700. Both are great guns...Geo

Buy them both, then shoot them for about ten yrs and come back and report to us. I think you'll like both, but for different reasons. If I had to pick just one and it was the only gun I could have,........I'd probably commit suicide.

If both guns have been properly cared for and are in equal condition then I don't think you could go wrong with either one. If you're looking to make a choice to buy one of them, then buy the gun that fits you best with all other things being equal.

You can shoot stouter loads through the Beretta, if that's a consideration. Agree with the above that both are good guns, but different. Depends on what you're looking for. The W&S should be somewhat lighter and more of a "hand-made" gun than the Beretta.

Larry got most of it right. The 700 has those hammers that have the funny points on them to fire the cartridge-they do break and it is a PITA to get them fixed. The Beretta firings pins break also, but, they are on the shelf at Ahlman's Custom Gun (among other places) and are a drop-in fix.
The double trigger and straight stock combination wins hands down for me, all other things being equal. I'd be willing to bet the Beretta has more and better executed engraving than the 700. But, they are both pretty decent guns.
Which one has stock dimensions closer to what you need? Or, choking? Nice not to have to get the gunsmith involved right away on a new gun.
