I will move this topic out of the box collecting thread.

Winchester Model 72 "Target" Rifle.
Let's get more information about these phantom rifles in "target" style, pictures, ect. Were the stocks offered in target style?

I will concede that they could be fitted with the same target sights as the Model 75 Target Rifle, as they have the same bolt action, but, unless special ordered, were not factory fitted.

I could well be wrong, but I would like proof.

This is the closest I've ever come and I've seen several 72 models. Not much help but maybe someone can build from there.

Yes, the Model 72 was offered with target style sights, and it was offered as a gallery gun in .22 Short, and it was used as a training rifle, however that does not make it a Target Rifle.
I was wrong about the sights not being fitted at the factory.

Hansli, that is a very nice Model 72.

Thanks, Pete.

Don,

You are welcome. There are some very serious rimfire collectors that frequent that site. As well some serious competitive shooters. The usual threads are a constant rehash. But start a new thread and you may be surprised at the responses. I was collecting Stevens single shots for a time and found a few kindred hanging out there. Ended by building up my library and learning a few things along the way from posters there.

Pete
