I never liked hand guards much myself, they are not exactly light , & surely must affect the balance of a Gun?
Could be a good way to move balance point towards the muzzles on a wippy gun?
Gloves for me
cheers

WOW Franc!! You must be one of most sensitive/experienced shotgun wingshooters I ever heard of!! With handguards I use, I sure cannot tell any difference in ballance in any of my old hammer doubles, even the 6,2 lb ones. But, maybe you have been using some of those lead-filled ones?

Same results on Merkels and Sauers -- always avoid those overpriced Brit guns.

Neither the phone number nor email for John B. appear to be current. Is there any other contact information. Thanks, john

He does good work. Can get regular and weighted handguards. Also makes hard gun cases.

Weighed two of my leather handguards on USPS scales. One is for 16 gauge (I use it on 12s), made/sold by Galco, and weighs 2,0 oz. Other is for 20 gauge (I use in on 16s), sold by Galazan (no idea who makes it), and weighs 2,5 oz. There is clearly more leather in 16 gauge size, so mouldable metal spring in 20 gauge size has to weigh more.

Guess this validates Franc's status as a sensitive shotgunner. Either that or he tried some lead-filled handguards.

Nik'
I must be way off then,,,,But I'd nearly swear(Sh##) that a 12bore one I had weighed more than 4oz.
This had a thin spring steel frame ,covered in leather ,& was about 6/7 inches long.Galco rings a bell as well.
I don't use them, & never said I could detect any balance change.
But my thought was that putting a 1/4lb of weight anywhere other than truly Between the Hands would have to affect the balance built into the Gun by the maker?
I will be interested to hear if Rman say's it makes any serious difference on his machine.
I just prefer a glove & the feel of the bbls for the small bit of shooting do these days .
Just for fun lads!
Franc
