Our usual New Years Eve at friends got scratched because of flu bug at their house.
Sooo... I'll be home tonight. I've always thought about it but never did it: Make up two 12ga black powder blanks - 160 grains of 2F black + 1/2" fiber wad compressed with a full stroke of my MEC JR.
should I point up in the air or in a safe direction for best results?

Thanks, Craig laugh

Every New Year my brother in law loads up his sawed-off Spanish sxs and wakes up the neighborhood with some Win factory loaded 12-bore blanks. He just points at the moon and cuts loose; other than the noise, which is very loud from those short barrels, we have noted no ill effects.

No, point it at your cat. Of course, point it in a safe direction. DUH!

In Arizona, where I live, this would ensure you ended up in jail if caught. We Have a prohibition here barring the firing of any weapons within the City limits anywhere in Arizona called Shannon's Law. The law was enacted after a 14 year old named Shannon while sitting in her backyard was tragically killed by someone shooting a firearm into the air on New Years Eve several years ago. This has always been a popular and irresponsible(IMO) activity of certain ethnic groups in the past but the law has somewhat curtailed the practice. I don't think that arguing you were only firing blanks would get you off the hook either.

Did Craig say he lived in a municipality, or around other people? There are actually people on this board who live way the heck away from ANY other people, and where there is no law against discharging a firearm in your own yard. Me, for one.

The idiots who were shooting in the air inside the city limits should pay with a life sentence for killing the young girl. But, the whole world is not a city in Arizona, and she was not killed with a blank, or even bird shot I'll wager.

Guys-

I live in a semi-rural township, my nearest neighbors to the north and east are 250-300 yards away. News Year Eve gunfire is a tradition around here. We have a one year old female pomeranian/chihuahua mix. On further reflection I may have given poor dog a coronary if I'd cut loose with both barrels in the old Stevens from the back porch!
Maybe next year or when the Steelers when the Super Bowl!!!

Craig
