Went hunting with my Winchester model 24 12ga. yesterday and discovered that the safety when selected to fire will not return unless you breach the barrels. Have not had the gun long and never noticed it until yesterday. Safty works fine on safe no problem. Shoots when off. But will not reengage unless the berrals are opened. It is an extractor gun. Also when the barrels are opened you must hold down on the barrels in order to load or unload. When you let go the barrels move back towards close to where the breach does not clear the receiver. Any help?

Thanks

I can't answer your safety question, but I have to hold my 24 open also to remove or load the shells. I think that is just the way they were made. I never thought it an issue. I can see if the gun was well used, it may stay open further and allow the shells to be installed and removed easier. I'm no expert, it's just how my gun is also. Hopefully others will also share there experience.

A lot of doubles are like that. Keeps the shells form falling out accidently went you are carrying it open.

Thanks to you both. I thought that might be the case as i also have seen others that did the same. My 1915 L.C. Smith does not and i have droped a shell or two and had to pick them up but she is a sweet shooter and i use her most often.
Thanks Again
