Uncle Sam, being the nice person he is, forwarded a check to my wife and I for around $4K. We used it for getting necessary work done on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, otherwise known as The Beast. I ended up buying a canvas leather case from Jeff's Outfitters for my Italian over and under. Case came last Friday and it does look nice. Now, here is the $64,000 question. Awhile back, I told you about a Model 21 duck gun that was for sale where the buttstock had been cut back around 4 to 5 inches. A replacement piece had been glued and doweled. What made this gun unique is the replacement piece had been glued to where the grain ran up and down, instead of the length of the wood for the stock. The price has been dropped to around $3K. This is a consignment gun. I expect to get a fair size hunk of change back from Uncle Sam for taxes and I hope to buy the gun. My question is: where can I find a finished or used buttstock for a Model 21 in 12 gauge? There are a couple of outfits that sell replacements stocks for 21s in 16 and 20 gauge, but no 12 gauge. Any ideas where I can find one? I already checked with Galazan and that was a no go.

Very scarce item, in my experience. About six years ago I had a chance to buy a 21 at a very attractive price, but with a very stubby stock. I looked hard for a replacement and finally started pricing custom stocks. Those prices killed the deal.

You might get lucky, might not.

Talk to Dennis Smith aka The Stock Doctor (DES/TSD). There may be less expensive options than a complete restock in the hands of a talented wood artisan.

Check the same guy you got the case from...I think he offer's a replacement stock for a mod 21.
