Not an unknown to remove them if a problem arose with the timing ,so when the trigger is pulled the gun does not fire. Often a temporary removal ,with the intention of haveing put right at a more conveinent moment that never comes. It is not unusual to find both sides removed. In the case of some Webley guns ,athough the action was drilled and machined out for intercepters as they used a standared body machining ,they were not actualy fitted to the lower range guns.
B999 are we looking at the same picture? I can not make out the name. But Lancaster it ain't.

If it had a scalloped back and decent steel barrels, in proof, I might try to buy it off you, Dustin. As you know, I have a weakness for a boxlock with all the bells and whistles...
Best, Ted
