Gentlemen,
A friend of mine has recently acquired a very sound BLE carring the name "George Manly & Son". We would like to find out more about this maker. I've looked in several books and all I can find on the maker is a listed address, nothing in regards to who George Manly was. Was he a gunmaker, shop owner, specialist, etc.?

The gun itself is pretty nice. Looks to be built on a Webley action with Greener third fastener, top lever has "Special Ejector" engraved on it (I didn't see anything too special about it, looks to be southgates to me). The rib address is "George Manly & Son 78 High Street Birmingham". Here is a link to the gun:

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Dustin

LeeFusil,Records show that there was a George Manly gun and pistol maker at, 4,Colmore Row, Birmingham, in 1855,obviously long before your gun was made. Boothroyd confirms that a George Manley and Son was located at; 78,High Street, Birmingham ,Circa 1900.Because the High Street[A retail location] is outside the gun making quarter, this to me indicates a gun dealer rather than a gun maker. However both Westley Richards and William Powell, both long time established gunmakers had Birmingham retail locations well outside of the gun quarter.
