I feed Purina One, 26% protein, 10% fat. Healthly dose of venison hamburg in their evening meals before and after a hunting day, just cause I can. I'm pretty sure that either Iams or Eukanaba is a big anti-hunting supporter, not sure which.

Tom I don't know about Iams politics, but how can you argue with these results? Is that not the toughest huntin' dog you ever saw?

Anybody use the Sam's Choice from WalMart (red bag)? Usually about $12 for a 50 pound bag. I used to feed Science Diet and then Nutro Lamb/Rice and Chicken/Rice. Switched to Sam's Choice to save money after the dogs seemed to do real well on it. One is almost 14 and still acts like a puppy most of the time.

She is a beauty! The first real Grouse dog I ever had was a chocolate lab. She was such a hard flusher (producer) that she single-handedly influenced 2 other hunting partners of mine to switch from pointing dogs to labs. I still remember the day after Christmas in 87 when she bum rushed a black spruce at the edge of a favorite covert and came out with a very surprised & somewhat featherless Ruff. My buddies wouldn't let me count it because I hadn't shot!! Never got another lab as she was without peer, moved on to Springers. Cherish her; your first bird dog will always be the best.

Iams and Eukanuba are the same company. The story goes that Iams donated a large sum of money to either PETA or the Humane Society. Not sure which. We all know neither is a friend to us. Many sportsman groups such as Ducks Unlimited, RGS, etc put the word out to their members, who voiced their displeasure to Iams by not buying their products. I think some of the magazines also stopped running their ads.
Anyway, Iams saw the error of their ways, apologized, and to this day are still making mends with sportsman.
They repackaged their Premium Performance line of Eukanuba, and renamed it Eukanuba Sporting.
Kind regards,

GP, Does "...making mends ..." mean supporting hunting? What's your understanding of their efforts?

I've fed Diamond, and Eagle Pack. Both foods worked out very well.
On Diamond it was costing about $1 a day to feed three Chessies, until hunting season, when our feeding habits pushed it up to about $1.50 to $2.00.

I think what had happened was that they (Iams) didn't look close enough at their marketing teams input and didn't think they had such a great following in the hunting dog end of it compared to the "home-anti-hunting" end of it. When they realized that their dog food was a highly recognized dog food to the sporting-hunting end they made ammends by offering coupons in sporting magazines and such. No different than any other organization. Sales is sales. It's a shame on how some companies weigh their loyalty on one group.

Purina plus venison carcasses. Sometimes a little wet Ol Roy on top of the Purina for a treat.

Curious to see this post come up. I just bought a bag of Inova EVO to try for my 7 yr old Lab. Expensive, but the ingredients looked very wholesome.
