I am trying to find a source for reloading data for 8x58r Sauer?
I can find bullets and brass online, but have not seen the specs. I am experienced in shotshell reloading but have not done rifle or pistol in about 20 years plus.
Does anyone know what the factory spec bullet weights and muzzle velocities would be for the cartridge? I have read comparisons but would rather know actual reloading specs.

I have a box loaded by Werner Sodia of Salzburg in the 1980s: bullet 12.7g Norma; powder 1.9g Bofors NC 1055. The 1935 Franz Sodia Ferlach catalog gives muzzle velocity at 533 meters per second (bullet unspecified).
With kind regards, Jani

Cartridges of the World show the RWS factory load 1690/196gr SP. It also shows 2 loads; 196 SP 34 gr IMR 4064 1942 fps 196 SP 39 gr RI-19 1870 fps Looks stout compared to the factory loads, I would be cautious.
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

The 1940 RWS Handbook has 2 loads, both with a 12.7 g bullet (note these are .318 diameter bullets). Powder is "T 1910", obsolete. First load with 1.8 g powder has muzzle velocity of 533 m/s, pressure is 1800 at (atmospheres). Second load with 2 g powder has v0 = 581 m/s, pressure 2000 at.
The modern RWS reloading manual (edition 9, 2002) gives loads for several current RWS powders, again with a 12.7 g round nose bullet from RWS. Velocity range from min. 520 m/s to max. 575 m/s. They use powders of medium to slow burn rate (R 902, R 903, R 907, R 904).
I hope this will help. Fuhrmann

Sorry,
I have no idea. I can send a copy of the relevant pages by e-mail, and help with translation if needed.

The fourth edition of the German loading manual "Viederladen" (year 2000) has five loads listed, one of which is 34.5 grains of IMR4064, Rem 9-1/2 primer, and a 196 grain .318" diameter bullet seated to an overall length of 76 mm. This gives 595 meters per second (barrel length not specified) and is listed as "max" pressure, elsewhere stated to be 2200 bar. Seems a bit on the hot side to me, but at least it's a data point with an American powder.

Sorry I got into this so late in the game. I actually came up with a load for mine(a cape gun). The gun has a .323 bore and I am using a 200gr speer over 37gr of AA4350. Low pressures with the straight case and quite accurate in my rifle. The load was an extrapolation of data from the 8x57r360 which has a lower capacity and a slightly different case design.
