Hello,

I just picked up a Miroku 12 ga O/U in excellent condition and would like to put an oil finish on the stock & forend but have no experience with removal of the buttstock from this action. I've not removed the buttplate yet as don't have my tools handy so therefore do not know if it's a throughbolt plus pins securing the stock. If anyone can provide the correct procedure to remove and reinstall the buttstock I would greatly appreciate the help.

The recent article on the Japanese gun trade in the summer DGJ inspired the purchase. This is Miroku-only marked gun with 28" bbls and a decent amount of scroll engraving on action and trigger guard. Forend is slim 'lightening' style secured with a Deely latch. Seems lighter than Citori Lightening in same configuration but have not weighed it yet. Looks to have been used very seldomly with only minor surface marks in wood that has pretty decent figure. Hoping to bring out a bit more with an oil finish...

Hi JMC,

It's a long "allen" key. Well that's what we call them over here. I have the tool here but you are a bit far away. It's about 18 inches long with a handle on the end but it's basically a hex spanner. Gumshop will have one that sells Brownings and Mirokus.

I've found that you can often wedge a screw driver into an allen bolt tightly enough to unscrew it, otherwise nearly any auto parts store should be able to sell you an allen socket (for a socket wrench) with a head on it for an allen screw. Also, if you have an allen wrench that fits, but isn't long enough, you can saw it off and make an allen socket by fitting the straight sawed-off piece into a six sided socket wrench that's the same size as the allen wrench.

Please in this order
Remove butt plate
Remove screw holding trigger guard tang
Remove screw/bolt inside stock ( use either extension and allen bit, socket or drag link tool).

skeettx,

Are you recommending the drag link bits as a preferred alternative to a correctly sized allen bit? About how long of an extension is required to reach the bolt?

Thanks for the added info!

6mm hex wrench (Allen) with handle, see how long it has to be by putting a pencil down the hole and see how far in it is.
A Perazzi stock removal tool will do quite well, if you have a friend with a P gun

Be aware that there can be various sized bolts used over the years including hex heads 1/2"AF and 12mm.
Also some variants have the trigger guard tang screwed in and others do not.Butt pads can have hidden screws (Phillips Head normally) their fixing holes could be plugged or nearly invisible slits in the rubber.

The older ones usualy have a screw slot, Take the heel plate off and shine a light down the hole ,you will see what the bolt head is like.
