rhd: i been sellin used guns for fun and profit for about 30 years now. during that time i have learned among other things, what sells and what does not sell. and also, who pays retail and who does not. i do what i do based on what works and does not work. my primary goal is to maximize sale prices in a given environment. i never continue a practice that conflicts with my primary goal.
once a gun reaches my hands, it's about money... Like the car dealers say "There's an ass for every seat". Or "there's a sucker born every minute" is that what you bring to this forum? Now where is that "ignore" button? I think you really LIKE being the horses ass of this place don't you. All the attention you need just by stirrin' the pot and ruining old guns.

dubble; i provide a used gun consignment service...sounds like you just cannot accept the reality and finality of what that means.

How do they put it... a used car salesman never stands behind anything he sells. Just in case the Brakes Fail.
What I find interesting is that Ed says he is providing buyers with what they want, but that GH with the rainbow receiver has been up on GB for a very long time...
In regards to my bringing up the Ithaca "touch up" of case colors. I was simply pointing out that even manufacturers have used some methods of restoring color to receivers, but that it was done by much more legitimate means than torching them.
I agree that case colors touched up with cold blue would not look all that great. At least it does not sound like it would. I am sure that some heating was required to do this, but that is typical of "cold" blues. they seem to work better if the metal is warmed a bit (when I say warmed, I mean you can still handle the metal afterwards). This could be done with a heat gun or even warming in an oven.

I almost feel like if the price drops a bit more on Ed's "Pièce de résistance" it should be purchased and treated to a proper restoration. It is a shame to see what happened to that fine old gun, but it certainly couldn't be harmed anymore at this point. Could be the basis for a nice project and an example to some on the proper approach to such things.
