I have 2 Ithaca SxS's ... they were thoroughly checked-out a few decades ago, and I have been using them. I have exhausted my supply of 21/2 in hulls. I use the MagTech for BP, and would like to use them with smokeless (Universal Clays). Has anyone had any experience loading smokeless in these hulls?

Mag Tech hulls are not suitable for smokeless powder because they use large rifle primers. The only place that I know of where you can buy all brass hulls in any chamber dimension is at Rocky Mountain Cartridge ph. 307-597-9693 You can view their web sight at www.rockymountaincartridge.com/

If you want to use non-brass hulls, there are plenty of 2 1/2 inch plastic hulls available. Ballistic Products and Precision Reloading (among others) carry them at prices competitive with 2 3/4 plastic.
Or you can cut down the 2 3/4 hulls. (Though, of course, plastic and black powder don't get along well together.)
To be sure, I've heard nothing but praise for Rocky Mountain's cartridges.

The Mag Tech website lists their all brass shotshell hulls as being for large pistol primers. These are the same primers former Rem, Win etc all brass hulls used. They were successfully loaded with smokeless powder for years. The US Army issued a lot of these loaded with OO buck & using smokeless powder.
Large pistol primers may not prove reliable for igniting slow powders but work well for the fast to medium varieties. There is not a lot of pressure tested data about, but they definitely "CAN" be loaded with smokeless.
The MagTech hulls are of drawn brass construction, thus with thinner walls than the "Turned" cases from RM. This means they require oversize wads, the 12ga normally using 11ga wads, but it also makes them "Tremendously Less Expensive" than the turned ones. 11ga wads are readily available in card & fiber type.
My very first reloading experience was with all brass shells using smokeless powder loads which were still listed in the then current Lyman handbook. This was with the old Alcan/Fiocchi cases which were Berdan primed. I gave up on this because of the aggravation in removing the fired primer, which is not a problem with the pistol primer.

Back in the 50s used brass 12 gas loaded with double O buck out of a Win. md. 12 as issued by the Army without any problems. No misfires that I can recall. Used the same gun to harvest some pheasants with Win. no. 6 shot that my dad sent me. Boat mail was slow but got a box or 2 every once in awhile.

I have used Mag Tech with black powder, 11 ga. wads and large pistol primers. I never tried smokeless.
The only problem I have had is the rim is smaller and will sometimes slip behind the extractor on one of my doubles.
I also get a lot dirty blow back over the first third of the shell, probably because of the chamber size.
However, you should see the kids faces when I load these shiny brass shells and blast a round of skeet at the local range.
