Sorry but I thought I had to bring this up

Can gun collecting get any more eccentric?
What are you really getting here?.never touched by human hands? could be a pile of rust.
Maybe if the box had a window, but like this I dont see the pointis it just me? CJ

It's not just you. Do ya' suppose they anticipated this sort of storage situation and coated everything well in cosmoline? Otherwise the condition might well be degraded.

Claudio, I totally agree with you! Is the seller sure that there really is a rifle in the box????

Claudio, if I bought that gun, I would go out the same day and buy two bricks of .22 shorts, a box cutter, and a bullet trap.

I had this Model 62 Winchester (d.o.m. 1936) for about 45 years, sold it five years ago for a little over 4K.........it had been handled and shot but was very minty with the box and all the factory papers......

Serious collectors will pay top prices for unbutchered guns.....amazing how much a minty box and papers increases the value of an old gun.....but they are always opened and handled......I watched a mint 1873 BOXED Winchester go for huge dollars......

If the gun is factory mint and pre WWII, serious collectors at the big shows will buy it fast.......

I don't see how the gun posted on gunsinternational was purchased originally without the original seller or buyer opening the box to inspect the gun.....that part seems a little fishy to me, even in the 30's and 40's when people were more honest.....?.....

OK, riddle me this: if a collector buys it, and displays it as is and as it's purported to be without ever opening the box, does it matter whether or not there's a gun inside? Or put another way, is there a rifle in the box if nobody ever sees it?

Hola Claudio,

Good question.

I'd get the one in pretty good condition for 1/10th of the price,
buy a couple of bricks of ammo and shoot it to my heart's content.
Don't give a hoot about the cardboard!

But... to each his own.

Saludos afectuosos,

JC

This could be called "Schrodinger's Winchester".
